We then had a couple of sessions at mill lane, on the first session dad had 1 Pike I had two. Mine was small jacks but good entertainment we also used the small gas cooker for the first time mostly having a sausage and beans. On the next session we fished the corner swim where I had two pike and dad had none. The weather was very mild for the time of year.

Looking back to mid June and the start of the river season, saw a visit to Abbey. I got one Chub, 5 1/2 lb being another new PB. I got it on my usual bolt rig and Rajh Spice Boilie.

A week and a half down in Dorset in early July saw me totally blank on the river. Reports of poaching and a general low turn out of anglers on the bank did’nt inspire confidance. We had a couple of days at Widgehill Ponds, the final day seeming land 3 small mirrors and lost a 4.th. Not what we went away for but at least we caught.

A day on the Wey followed on my last leave day, I landed a 5lb 3oz Chub which I caught off the surface. This is the first fish I’ve taken off the surface and the first time I have stalked and caught a fish by selection! It was swimming in the middle of the stream, I threw in 5 chunks of bread, it scoffed the first and then disappeared. 10mins later it returned, so i unclipped the weight, cast in and it turned and took my bait.

I worked a few Scottish stations on 40M, a good path. I also worked a few East Europeans on 20M, also into Baltics. The old 817 seemed to work just fine, I have just got a new JumpStart which doubles as a compressor, I plan on using this to replace my old portable powerstation.

We (Dad and I) arrived on Sunday for a weeks fishing on day tickets for some barbel, chub and a day on Christchurche’s King Vincents lake. On the Monday we went to Bisterne for some lower Avon action, fished my usual swim with a feeder filled with hemp and caster. Caster was the hook bait along with a rubber caster on size 8 hook. I had a 5lb 10oz chub on that (new PB!) and a slightly smaller chub on my bolt rig setup. This was a size 6 hook, fluro hook length, pallatrax stonze, plus a sneeky lead leader fished with a ‘pin and slack line. Bait was Quest Rahj Spice 10mm, double and also glugged in their matching flavour.

The following day we went to a lower part and blanked all day! Lots of weed coming down but sunny and warm. Wed we had a day in, a nice lunch at the Queens Head in Burley, if a little expensive!

Thurday we returned to our usual spot at Bisterne, again with the same setup, I lost a good chub or barbel, I then replaced the hooklength on the feeder with a fluro trace and size 10, I then hooked another 5lb 10oz chub. I also has a dace.

Friday was another blank, on Sat we tried one of the Somerley lakes, but blanked, I used my usual stillwater feeder setup and my Locslide float with pellet.

Another visit in the evening was a blank, I had a session last Friday and again blanked so it seems maybe extra angling pressure and/or failing water levels maybe taken their toll.
